The Best Body Scrubs for Smooth, Glowing Skin in 2026: A Skincare Expert's Top Picks
Dry elbows, rough knees and flaky skin don't stand a chance against the right body exfoliator. If you've ever run your hands over silky smooth skin after using a great body scrub, you'll understand why I'm such a fan of a body exfoliator. A good body scrub is one of the most satisfying steps in any body care routine, instantly transforming rough, dull skin and leaving it softer, smoother and noticeably brighter.
However, not all body scrubs are created equal. You want an exfoliator that delivers visible results while respecting the skin barrier and one that you'll genuinely enjoy using week after week.
As a skincare expert, I've tested countless body scrubs over the years, from intensive, results-driven exfoliators that dramatically improve skin texture to luxurious oil-rich formulas that nourish the skin while buffing away dryness. Whether you're looking for the best body scrub for dry skin, a pre-tan exfoliator, help with ingrown hairs or simply softer, glowing skin, you'll find a recommendation here.
Regular body exfoliation is one of the most effective ways to support the skin's natural cell renewal process. By removing the build-up of dead skin cells, body scrubs help improve skin tone and texture while allowing body creams, serums and body oils to penetrate more effectively. Think of exfoliation as the step that helps all your other body care products work harder for you.
My Top Body Exfoliation Tips
1. Exfoliate Weekly for the Best Results
One of the biggest mistakes I see is treating body exfoliation as a seasonal skincare step. While many people only reach for a body scrub in spring and summer, consistent weekly exfoliation delivers the best long-term results.
Regular exfoliation helps support natural cell turnover, smooth rough texture and improve overall skin radiance. Stick to a weekly routine throughout the year and you'll notice softer, brighter and more even-looking skin.
2. Try Applying Your Body Scrub to Dry Skin
If you're looking for a deeper exfoliation, applying your body scrub to dry skin before stepping into the shower can be a game changer.
Without water creating slip on the skin, the exfoliating particles can grip more effectively, helping to remove stubborn dead skin cells and rough patches. If you have sensitive skin, however, applying to damp skin may be a gentler option that still delivers excellent results.
3. Apply Before a Bath
Many of the best body scrubs contain nourishing plant oils that not only exfoliate but also condition the skin.
Using your scrub before a bath allows those beneficial oils to disperse into the water, creating a luxurious, skin-softening soak. It's an easy way to boost hydration while turning your exfoliation routine into a relaxing self-care ritual.
4. Massage Upwards Towards the Heart
When applying a body scrub, use upward circular motions working towards the heart.
This technique can help stimulate circulation, encourage lymphatic drainage and leave tired, heavy limbs feeling refreshed. It's also a wonderful way to relieve muscle tension while enhancing the overall body care experience.
5. Never Skip Exfoliation Before Fake Tan
Body scrubs are one of the easiest ways to create the perfect canvas for self-tan.
Exfoliating before applying fake tan helps remove dry patches and uneven texture, allowing your tan to develop more evenly and fade more naturally. Regular exfoliation can also help prolong the appearance of a natural tan by keeping the skin smooth and healthy-looking.
For even better results, follow my expert advice on how to apply fake tan for a flawless, streak-free finish, including the common mistakes that can lead to patchiness and uneven colour.
Why Use a Body Scrub?
The benefits of body exfoliation go far beyond smoother skin. The best body scrubs can help:
Remove dead skin cells and dullness
Improve skin texture and tone
Reduce the appearance of rough elbows and knees
Help prevent ingrown hairs
Support the skin's natural renewal process
Enhance the absorption of body creams, oils and serums
Prepare the skin for fake tan application
Boost radiance and promote healthier-looking skin
If glowing, smooth and healthy-looking skin is your goal, a good body scrub is one of the simplest yet most effective additions you can make to your body care routine.
From the messiest-but-most-transformative formulas to the quickest and easiest ways to exfoliate in the shower, these are the body scrubs that truly deliver results.

Tropic Body Smooth Refreshing Polish
I was not expecting to love this as much as I do. I am two jars down, and the Tropic Body Smooth is one of my favourites, but this is not a neat scrub. It's best used in the shower or standing in the bath, but if you enjoy a thorough, skin-transforming exfoliation, this is excellent. The formula blends mineral-rich Sea Salt, Magnesium Salts, Sugar, and Coconut Coir Fibres with a generous mix of conditioning oils including Coconut, Macadamia, Jojoba, and Rosehip. Together, they effectively smooth rough, dull skin while leaving it deeply nourished and comfortable, not stripped or tight. The uplifting Citrus and Eucalyptus essential oil blend offers an energising, spa-like experience, making it ideal for pre-fake-tan prep or weekly body care rituals. Messy, yes, but incredibly effective. Skin is left soft, polished, and well-conditioned.
Dead Sea Dream Refining Body Scrub
This is definitely one to use standing over the bath, as it can get a little messy. But if you love a really thorough exfoliation, you’ll probably enjoy this. The Dead Sea salts provide a strong physical scrub that intensively and brilliantly buff away dead skin cells, while the oils help the salts glide over the skin, leaving the skin with a veil of nourishment. With Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Shea Butter and Mango Butter, they help to soften and condition the skin. Once you rinse and relax in the bath afterwards, the oils melt into the skin and leave it feeling beautifully soft and intensely moisturised.
If you have sensitive skin or are prone to body acne, this might not be the best option, as the salt exfoliation and richer oils could potentially cause irritation or congestion.

Decléor 1000 Grains Green Mandarin Body Exfoliator
Decléor 1000 Grains Green Mandarin Body Exfoliator is such a beautiful sensory body scrub and one I think is perfect if you love easy-to-use and extremely effective nourishing textures. It starts as a rich gel texture that suspends the exfoliating particles beautifully (makes the exfoliating grains much easier to control), then transforms into an oil as you massage it into dry skin, before finally turning into this gorgeous milky emulsion once water is added. and much easier to control, which I really like because it stops the grains from falling everywhere.
It reminds me of the way a cleansing balm melts down into a stunning oil that encourages you to massage the skin and makes the whole experience feel really luxurious.
The uplifting Green Mandarin scent makes it feel really invigorating and energising in the shower. The evolving gel-oil-milk texture is nourishing from start to finish and leaves the skin with such a healthy glow. From the very first use, skin looks smoother, brighter, and more refined, and it transforms a simple shower into a truly indulgent body care ritual.
Be careful where you buy Decleor products, as the brand has relaunched in limited Stockists for the UK. QVC is the approved distributor anywhere else and I wouldn’t be able to guarantee the authenticity of the stock and the freshness.
This Works Perfect Legs 100% Natural Scrub
This Works Perfect Legs 100% Natural Scrub is such a divine body exfoliator, and one I especially love when I want a more spa-like bathing experience at home. Infused with Pink Himalayan Salt, it gently buffs away dead skin cells while a nourishing blend of Blackcurrant, Sweet Almond and Crambe Oils leaves the skin feeling incredibly soft, smooth and moisturised. Rich in fatty acids, the oils instantly condition the skin and help restore moisture, while the uplifting essential oils make the whole experience feel really indulgent and relaxing.
I actually recommend applying the scrub onto dry skin while standing in the bath so the bath catches all of the grains. Once you’ve exfoliated, relax in the bath and allow the warm water to slowly rinse everything away. It turns the bath into a bathing ritual as the mineral-rich salts and nourishing oils soften and replenish the skin, leaving the body feeling velvety smooth and deeply moisturised afterwards.
I really love how nourishing it feels while still giving a proper exfoliation. It instantly transforms dull, dry or sallow-looking skin and leaves behind such a healthy glow. In terms of exfoliation strength, I’d say it’s on par with Elemis Frangipani Monoi Salt Glow, although this formula does feel slightly grainier in texture. If you enjoy rich oil-based salt scrubs that leave the skin glowing and silky soft, this is a beautiful one to try.
Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub
If you love a proper body scrub that actually feels like it’s doing something, then you will love the Caudalie Crushed Cabernet Scrub. This is not one of those gentle barely-there exfoliators it’s a true scrub and gives the skin such a thorough polish. That being said, it is does join the group of messy exfoliators. You absolutely will end up with grains all over the shower, but the texture is rich and gritty thanks to the crushed Grape Seeds, and it really works at smoothing away dry, rough skin. Your skin feels will feel incredibly soft, smooth and nourished with that almost silky finish that makes you want to keep touching your skin. I love the scent, it has this energising herbal citrus aroma with notes of Lemon, Lemongrass, Rosemary and Juniper Berry that makes it feel really uplifting and refreshing in the shower. Whilst the blend of six essential oils also helps stop the scrub from feeling drying, it’s not an oily base so although it exfoliates deeply, the skin still feels comfortable and nourished afterwards.
Yes, it’s messy, but if you are someone who loves a strong exfoliating scrub that leaves your skin feeling instantly smoother and softer, this is absolutely worth it.

Beauty Pie Soul Providers Re-Energizing Dry Oil Sugar Scrub
If you haven’t heard of Beauty Pie before, it’s essentially a members-only beauty club that gives you access to luxury skincare, bodycare and makeup at much lower prices by cutting out the traditional retail markups. I’ve tried a lot from the brand over the years and there are a few standouts and the Soul Providers Re-Energizing Dry Oil Sugar Scrub is definitely one of them.
The first thing you will experience is the aroma, which smells absolutely incredible and instantly gives that luxury spa-at-home feel. It’s fresh, uplifting and the kind of product that makes an everyday shower feel much more indulgent.
Texture-wise, this is stunning too it combines Sea Salt and Sugar with nourishing oils so you get a really satisfying exfoliation without your skin ever feeling stripped or dry afterwards. Some scrubs disappear too quickly or don’t feel like they’re doing much, but this gives a proper thorough exfoliation and leaves the skin feeling incredibly smooth, soft and glowy. It’s packed with plant oils of Sweet Almond, Avocado, Apricot Kernel and Evening Primrose, so while it exfoliates really well, it also leaves behind that silky moisturised feeling on the skin. The addition of Lemon Peel Powder gives it that fresh energising feel too. If you love an oil-based body scrub that exfoliates properly while still leaving the skin nourished, this is absolutely worth trying.
You can now buy it and not become a member; this should typically be £50, but it’s £30

Olverum The Body Polish
This is probably one of my favourite body scrubs because it delivers excellent exfoliation without the mess that often comes with traditional salt or oil-based scrubs. The exfoliating grains are suspended in a creamy, moisturising base, making it easy to apply and comfortable to massage into the skin.
I particularly like that Olverum have combined both enzymatic and physical exfoliation. The Fermented Papaya Enzyme helps dissolve dead skin cells, while Bamboo and Pumice provide effective mechanical exfoliation, leaving skin incredibly smooth and refined without feeling overly harsh. The addition of Hydroclay helps draw out impurities, making skin feel deeply cleansed as well as polished.
Olverum know how to make the most delicious body products, they are famous for the bath oil and the beautiful inclusion of essentials including Bergamot, Geranium, Grapefruit and Ylang Ylang, leave the skin feeling soft, nourished and transporting you to the spar. The result is smoother, brighter, glowing skin with a luxurious treatment-like experience.

Elemis Frangipani Salt Glow
This is one of the most indulgent body scrubs I’ve tried and strikes the perfect balance between effectiveness and being surprisingly not too messy. The tropical frangipani scent is instantly transportive, and if that doesn’t win you over, the way your skin feels afterwards definitely will.
This is a salt-based exfoliator suspended in a rich blend of oils, including Coconut Oil infused with Frangipani and Tahitian Tiare Flower Extracts. It buffs away dry, dull skin while leaving it incredibly soft, smooth, and deeply moisturised. Skin feels so nourished that you may feel tempted to skip body moisturiser, although I’d still recommend following with one to lock everything in.
I like to apply it to dry skin before turning the shower on or while standing in the bath. The salt grains move a little, but far less than many scrubs I’ve tried. It’s a true spa-level body treatment that delivers glow, softness, and luxury in one step.

Medik8 Smooth Body Kit - One to keep an eye out for
I absolutely love the Medik8 Smooth Body Kit and honestly hope it comes back in stock soon because it’s that good. The kit includes the Smooth Body Scrub and Smooth Body Lotion and while it’s £52 for both products, you unfortunately can’t buy them separately which is probably my only real complaint because I would happily repurchase the body cream on its own again and again.
The scrub is really lovely and gentle while still making the skin feel noticeably smoother and softer after using it. It uses a blend of Lactic Acid and Pumice so you get both chemical and physical exfoliation, but it never feels harsh or stripping on the skin. I also love that it contains Shea Butter and Squalane, which help keep the skin feeling nourished and comfortable rather than dry afterwards. It’s the kind of scrub that gives your skin a really polished, healthy glow without irritating it.
The standout product for me though is definitely the body lotion. It’s lightweight but incredibly effective and makes such a difference to skin texture. If you struggle with roughness, dryness or those little bumps on the backs of arms and legs, this works so well at smoothing everything out. The combination of Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid and Urea gently exfoliates while still keeping the skin hydrated, and the addition of Moringa Butter and Squalane leaves the skin feeling properly soft and moisturised.
Together, the two products work brilliantly as a bodycare duo and genuinely leave the skin looking smoother, healthier and more refined. I just really wish Medik8 sold them separately because the body lotion especially has become one of my favourite body products I’ve tried in a long time.
It's currently out of stock, so fingers crossed it's not gone for good, and it's an ingredient or packaging problem.
Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
If you suffer from Keratosis Pilaris, it's important to know that no amount of scrubbing will make it disappear. In fact, excessive harsh exfoliation can sometimes aggravate the condition, leaving the bumps looking redder, the skin drier and more noticeable.
The key to managing KP is not to scrub harder, but to help dissolve and loosen the keratin plugs. This is where targeted ingredients, can be particularly effective.
One of my personal favourites is Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion, which is specifically formulated to help smooth and soften rough, bumpy skin.
